In the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, one of the potholes unexpectedly became the reason for saving a woman's life. It was reported that Vineta Shukla was declared brain dead after leaving a hospital in the city of Bareilly, as doctors believed there was no chance of her survival. During the examination in the first hospital, there was no response from the brainstem, she was completely unconscious, scoring only three points on the Glasgow Coma Scale, compared to the normal rate of 15 points. The man added that her pupils were dilated, and her vital signs were deteriorating, which prompted doctors to declare her brain dead. However, while she was being transported to her home by ambulance on the national highway, the car hit a large pothole, which shook the vehicle violently. According to her husband, Kuldip Kumar Shukla, speaking to the 'Times of India', this strong jolt was a lifeline, as his wife suddenly regained consciousness and began to breathe again. The husband explained that he had asked the family to prepare for the funeral after his wife stopped breathing and her pulse became irregular, but the impact with the large pothole changed the course of events, as her breathing returned to normal immediately. He immediately asked the family to cancel the funeral arrangements, and she was quickly transferred to Neurocity Hospital for treatment. In turn, the neurosurgeon at the hospital, Dr. Rakesh Singh, reviewed all the medical records and the diagnosis from Bareilly Hospital. Potholes on Indian roads cause many accidents and deaths.
