A massive explosion at a police station in the Indian city of Srinagar killed at least seven people and injured around 30. The blast occurred while handling explosive material.

At least seven people were killed and around 30 injured after a massive explosion quickly spread through the Nowgam police station in Srinagar late Friday night, with officials warning that the toll could rise. Following the blast, a fire engulfed the building and several vehicles parked inside the premises. Witnesses and video footage from the scene show how the explosion destroyed the building, sending flames and thick smoke into the air. According to the channel, the explosion occurred while police and forensic teams were handling explosive material brought from Faridabad (Haryana), stored inside the police station as part of the recent car bombing in Delhi. Another report noted that most of the dead in the police station were police officers and forensic team members who were examining the explosives. The Police has not issued any statement so far regarding the explosion. Immediately after the detonation, several fire trucks and ambulances were quickly dispatched to the police station to extinguish the fire and transport the injured to the nearest hospitals.
