Two American officials confirmed that a Pakistani interceptor of Chinese manufacture shot down two Indian military aircraft. According to the officials, the incident occurred in the area of the border between India and Pakistan.
Indian military officials accused Pakistan of aggression and stated that the incident constitutes a serious violation of airspace. They also confirmed the loss of one of their pilots.
In turn, a representative of Pakistan stated that the operation was carried out in response to a violation of Pakistani airspace and was exclusively defensive in nature. Pakistan also claimed the capture of one of the Indian pilots.
