The Indian government aims to mitigate the impact of US tariffs by accelerating the signing of trade deals with various countries, including the UK.

India Accelerates Trade Partnership Diversification

Experts have reported that the Indian government has moved quickly by accelerating its strategy to diversify its trade partnerships. India is seeking to sign trade agreements with more than one party, aiming to open new markets for its products in order to mitigate the impact of the 50% stringent customs duties imposed by the United States on its goods, while negotiations between New Delhi and Washington remain stalled. The high customs duties imposed by Washington since late last August in response to New Delhi's purchase of Russian oil have dealt a heavy blow to the exports of the world's most populous country. In this context, India signed four agreements in 2025, including a free trade agreement with the United Kingdom.
