A tragic fire at a nightclub in the Indian state of Goa has claimed the lives of 25 people, with six others injured. Goa's Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, announced the updated death toll and ordered a judicial investigation into the incident. "Today is a day of grief for everyone in Goa. I have ordered a judicial investigation to determine the cause and responsibilities," Sawant stated on social media. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the victims' families and wished for the swift recovery of the injured. The government has promised to pay 200,000 rupees (about $2,230) to the nearest relatives of the deceased and 50,000 rupees (about $560) to the injured. The fire broke out at a popular tourist club in Arpora, near the busy beaches of Baga and Calangute. The Chief Minister visited the site and demanded a thorough investigation to check compliance with fire safety and building codes, warning that any negligence will be dealt with firmly.
