As a result of the explosion at a munitions factory in western India, at least eight people have been reported dead, officials said.

In the explosion, which occurred at the munitions factory, fewer than eight people were killed, and seven others were injured, Indian Minister of Roads and Highways informed.

According to the state's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, at least 14 workers were trapped inside the building, and rescue operations are underway.

India's Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed "deep regret" over the explosion.

The incident took place on Friday in the Maharashtra state in the Bhandara district, more than 800 kilometers east of Mumbai, due to the roof collapse of the factory.
