The political statement of an Indian politician regarding women receiving money in the case of the birth of a third boy or 50,000 rupees in the case of a girl, has triggered widespread discussions in India. A deputy from the Telugu Desam party, Kalyan Mohan Abalando, offered to provide 50,000 rupees (575 dollars) or money to women for the birth of a third child.
At an event in Markapur in the Prakasam district, the chief minister of the state, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, also underscored the importance of increasing the number of children to boost the number of youth in the state in the coming years. Speaking at the event dedicated to International Women's Day, he said if a woman gives birth to a third child—a girl, she will receive 50,000 rupees from her salary, and if it is a boy, he will receive money.
Abalando's statement has received widespread coverage in the state, while officials have been talking about a decline in the birth rate of youth and the need to increase it. Abalando stated to the newspaper 'The Indian Express': 'My statement comes in response to calls for the need to adopt measures to increase the birth rate,' adding: 'We urge women to have more children and propose financial support in case of the birth of a third child.'
