Iran has asked India to release three oil tankers detained in February as part of talks aimed at ensuring the safe passage of ships flying the Indian flag in the Strait of Hormuz, according to three sources familiar with the matter. One of the sources, an Iranian official, said Tehran is seeking to obtain supplies of some medicines and medical equipment. Indian authorities seized three Iranian-linked oil tankers near Indian regional waters, accusing them of concealing or falsifying their identity and being involved in illegal ship-to-ship transfers at sea.
