US Ambassador to India Sergio Jor said in a post on social media platform X that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump spoke by phone on Tuesday about the situation in the Middle East, including the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. This was the first phone contact between the leaders since the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran on February 28. «Maintaining the Strait of Hormuz open, safe, and available to all is critically important for the world as a whole,» Modi said in a separate post on X. He also stated that India supports de-escalation and the restoration of peace at the earliest.
